After years of drug abuse we lost another one...

Even with all the years of abuse, this still comes as a big surprise to Whitney Houston fans who thought she would finally pull through!

Grammy Award winning R & B singer, Whitney Houston, died Saturday February 11, 2012 at 48 years old... a rep for the singer told the Associated Press.

Sources say it could be a possible drowning as she was found in the bathtub. Reports say paramedics performed CPR...it did not work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

At first, CNN had reports claiming R&B singer Ray J was with her and found her dead. This was according to a friend of his that spoke to CNN producer.

Whitney was seen in public with Ray J just a few days before, who allegedly admitted to using cocaine.

But a publicist for Ray J says this story is inaccurate and Ray was no where near the hotel when Whitney’s body was found.

Now CNN says Whitney Houston's bodyguard, "Ray" found her dead, and not Ray J.

UPDATE: This is Whitney's last known photo in public, from Thursday night. She didn't seem to be looking too well...

According to sources, Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, is "hysterical"..saying she spoke with her daughter 25-30 minutes before she died and nothing seemed unusual.

Sources say Whitney Houston "partied heavily" at the Beverly Hilton hotel with a group of friends ... and sources say even though the hotel was busy with all the Grammy festivities, Whitney and her group stood out because they were so loud and energetic.

We hear Bobby Brown was distraught over the news of Whitney's death -- going "in and out of crying fits."

Bobby and New Edition had a concert the night of Whitney's death, in Mississippi -- and believe it or not Bobby went on with the show!

Sources on site said Bobby started the show by addressing the crowd, pointing to the sky, and saying,
"I love you."
Later, practically collapsing on stage in tears.

As for the Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy party, that went on as scheduled too.

Whitney was supposed to be the opening performance... but instead her death was being investigated in the same hotel as the party... just a few floors up!

The President/CEO of The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Foundation Neil Portnow said,

"The show must go on, that's what she would want and that's what we will do. "

And Clive Davis, who discovered Whitney's talents and signed her to his label, opened the event w/ a tribute and moment of silence,
"Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on"

Producer Jimmy Jam said her death was a "bittersweet irony"....

"The fact that it happened on this day, this event is where Clive Davis introduced Whitney to the world. We said hello to Whitney at the Clive Davis (gala), it may be appropriate we're saying our first goodbyes to Whitney at a Clive Davis event."

"In a weird way it's appropriate, the show must go on. I think Whitney would have wanted that to happen. ... Tonight I think we begin to celebrate and remember."

MORE UPDATES: Beverly Hills Police are still seeking a warrant to search the room and say they will not enter until they obtain it.

Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina was been denied access to see her own mother's body.

Around 12:45AM (2:45AM Eastern time), Whitney's body was removed from the room on a gurney. Someone actual stuck this photo of her being carried away...

She will go to the morgue for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Reports say prescription drugs were present, and it's possible she drowned in the bathtub.

Sunday Feb. 12, 2012: Reports came out that Whitney Houston was found with her face underwater. Allegedly a music executive staying in the room above Whitney's heard two "loud thumps" around 3:30PM.

We hear her bodyguards and entourage became worried about Whitney, because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour, and it was time to start getting ready for the Clive Davis party.

The autopsy of Whitney Houston revealed she did have water in her lungs when she died, but the medical examiner needs to determine exactly how much before they can rule whether she died as a result of drowning ...They don't know if she died before being submerged in water either.

Whitney was pronounced dead 3:55PM, just a few hours before she was supposed to perform at the Pre-Grammy party, which continued on even though he body was just a few floors up.
