JR Martinez is celebrating his Dancing With the Stars win with a trip to the Pentagon.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta wrote the Iraqi war veteran and DWTS winner a congratulatory note following Martinez's victory.

"Your strength and spirit captivated the nation, and your victory sends a strong message about the strength and resilience of our wounded warriors,"
he said. Panetta later called with a personal invitation to the Pentagon.

Martinez served in Iraq and was severely injured when his vehicle hit a landmine. After numerous surgeries, the 28-year-old went on to play Brot Monroe on All My Children.

He's also going to serve as grand marshal of the annual Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, Calif., on Jan. 2.

"His outlook on life is admirable, and we couldn't be happier to have the chance to celebrate the new year with him as we entertain the millions of fans around the world during the Rose parade and Rose Bowl game,"
Tournament of Roses head Rick Jackson said in a statement.
